Locations & Facilities

MIST will be conducted at the Clinical Research Centre in the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, which is a dedicated, modern, and well-equipped facility for clinical research.

Since 1960, the Faculty of Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University has been a global leader for research and training in tropical diseases prevalent in Southeast Asia. It comprises 12 departments, including a 250-bed teaching hospital as well as the Bangkok School of Tropical Medicine, the world’s premier educational institution for the study of tropical diseases and the only one located in a tropical country.

Multiple departments within the Faculty of Tropical Medicine collaborate in this programme including the world-leading Mahidol Vivax Research Unit (MVRU), the entomological facility within the FTM that has provided lab-reared mosquitoes for previous vivax infection studies in the USA, UK, and France.

Mahidol Vivax Research Unit (MVRU)

MVRU is a major unit of the Malaria Excellence Centre of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University. With full access to Mahidol University facilities and supporting infrastructure, including well-equipped field laboratories in malaria endemic sites, MVRU has established itself as a leader in Plasmodium vivax research. The unit has attracted substantial international research funding aiming to drive malaria elimination.

The Department of Medical Entomology

The Department of Medical Entomology is one of the five departments at the initial stage of the establishment of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine since 1960. The Department has been actively involved in education, research and public service. The Department also provides trainings on medically important insects/ arthropods and vector control both for individual and in group upon request.

The Department of Clinical Tropical Medicine

The Department of Clinical Tropical Medicine, one of the first departments within the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University was established in 1960 to pursue research and training in tropical diseases prevalent in Thailand and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and clinical care in tropical medicine. 

The Tropical Medicine Diagnostic Reference Laboratory

The Tropical Medicine Diagnostic Reference Laboratory (TMDR) provides specialized diagnostic services for a wide range of major tropical diseases in Thailand such as dengue and malaria. The TMDR is equipped with modern and standardized laboratory testing techniques to produce fast, accurate serological results.
